I’ve been busy the past few weeks starting to plan a birthday celebration. It seems to have snuck up on me but yes, I’m turning the big Five O.
I love entertaining & having guests around, but I wanted to make this party a little different and have a 70s theme. In my opinion, it had some of the best music ever, and is usually guaranteed to get everyone up dancing & enjoying themselves.
I started off by deciding to make my own invitations suited to the theme. Although a little time consuming, I was able to make them any way I wanted and add any type of embellishment, aside from the fact that I enjoyed making them. I’ve put up step by step instructions on how I made these on Craftfound.com .
The 70s covers a couple of different styles of dress/music. The early 70s with the hippy, colourful look going on into the mid-late 70s where disco started to take over. As I’m trying to encourage everyone to dress to the theme, I’ve left it pretty open as to what style they want to take on. Therefore I made the invitations to suit – colourful with a bit of sparkle.
For a bit of fun, I decided to add on some pockets to the front with a double sided pull out tag. They were easy to make & I’ve put up detailed instructions on Craftfound.com .
I wanted to make the inside of the invitations fun and colourful too, so as well as the normal where/what/why/when info, I added a 70s collage to the opposite page.
These invitations were really quite cheap to make & many of the recipients have been telling me how great they look. For your next party, get a theme going and try to encourage all your guests to get in the mood. My party isn’t until August (yes-I was excited to get the invites out early….) but I’ll let you know how everything turns out.
Now – for the decorations…………… (another post for another day)
