It’s lovely for someone to receive a beautiful handmade card – whether it’s for a special occasion or just to say “I’m thinking of you”. There are so many talented people out there making cards with stamps, cut-outs, stickers etc. so how about using fabric, lace and braid for something a little bit different. One of my best friends was celebrating her 60th birthday – I know she always appreciates anything I make for her which makes the process of creating something for her all that more worthwhile. She told me a while ago that she has kept all the Christmas cards I have made for her the past few years and puts them all out every Christmas as they are so pretty – a true friend and a kind and appreciative lady.
You can buy cards with cut-outs already done for you in craft shops or card making supplies sites – some have acetate covering the cut-out as per the one I have here and others don’t so it is your choice. The acetate protects your fabric and lace however if you wanted to make a card with more of a 3-D effect in the middle, you really don’t want the acetate.
I had a stash of lace pieces and satin off-cuts plus some lovely lace motifs that had already been coloured with dye. It’s a good way to be able to use up some of those smaller pieces of fabric you always seem to have hiding away in a box.
